When the South needed all her sons to come to her defence, Claiborne Parish answered the call without hesitation. Hundreds of men from Claiborne Parish served throughout the War in all major Campaigns and did some of the heaviest fighting. They were mustered in on the lawn of the Courthouse which is still in use. A monument to their courage and adherence to Duty now stands on that lawn. Two of these companies called themselves the Claiborne Invincibles! One was Co K of the 17th La Infantry and the other was Co D of the 28th La Infantry.

The Homer Camp SCV # 797 was first Chartered in 1923. On the night of May 25th 2000 compatriots from Homer and nearby areas met to reactivate this camp. They decided to change the name to the Claiborne Invincibles to more overtly honor the brave men who did their Duty. Also they felt their Cause and legacy is indeed Invincible!
